Over a month after organizing successful anniversary parties in Metro Manila, Davao, and Cebu, FlipTop held its first battle event of 2018. It was the sixth chapter of Second Sight and it took place on the 16th of March at the legendary B-Side in Makati. Thank you so much for the memories, B-Side! There are only five matches on the card but it still ended up as a historic night for Philippine battle rap and hip-hop. How? Let’s take a look back at this monumental affair.

The poster for Second Sight 6 was posted on social media just a week before the event. FlipTop was still very busy working on the official website so they had little time to promote the card. They expected a low turnout, but what happened was the exact opposite. B-Side still ended up being packed with solid fans, both old and new. It just goes to show that the community was stronger than ever. Now, let’s talk about the epic lineup!

Batas vs Jonas was an instant classic style clash. Batas went full force with his hard-hitting bars and aggression while Jonas delivered his creative band of humor and effective sarcasm. Abra vs Poison13 was a remarkable exhibition of rhyme schemes, jokes, and technical lines. It was a close fight from the first to the third round. Shehyee vs Lhipkram was also a back-and-forth bout. Shehyee delivered his trademark in-your-face bars with his commanding presence while Lhipkram showcased his solid multis and intricate pen game.

Sayadd vs J-King was another memorable clash of styles. Sayadd showcased some of his most vicious rhymes to date using his beloved sinister delivery and J-King amazed the crowd with his flawless combination of witty comedy and hard bars. Plazma vs Batang Rebelde was the first battle of the night and it already got the crowd hyped up. Both emcees represented their respective styles while brilliantly mixing humor with brutal rhymes.

Each match was for the 2018 Isabuhay which ended up being an unforgettable tournament. Shehyee ultimately won the championship at Ahon 9 in an intense battle with Pistolero. Second Sight 6 started 2018 with a bang and it never slowed down from there. It was certainly one of the best years for the local battle rap scene. Did you attend Second Sight 6?
